As all of us know, Scouting has taught us that we should live the Scout Oath and Law in our everyday lives. It is for this reason that I have continued my involvement in community service after earning Eagle Scout. My latest project involves collecting water for victims of the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. For anyone who is not familiar with the crisis, read this: http://time.com/4191864/flint-water-crisis-lead-contaminated-michigan/ I am currently collaborating with groups of students from the following campus organizations at Brookdale Community College: History and Political Science Club, Honors Association, Phi Theta Kappa, TIN, WILL, and Students for Global Citizenship. We have also secured support for community groups such as the Ocean County NAACP, the Freehold First Aid Squad, and the Teaneck Rotary. My hope is to get Troop 150 involved in such a great cause as well. What We Are Looking For: Packages of water bottles (normally sold in 12-, 28-, or even 32-packs) Last Day to Donate: April 14th Where to Bring the Donations: I will do my best to stop by every troop meeting to collect any donations In most cases, an incentive is not provided for community service. HOWEVER, I will be purchasing a $25 gift card for GameStop that I will be giving to the Scout who can collect and donate the highest volume of water. I welcome any donations that can be provided and remain thankful for all of the support of the parents and scouts of Troop 150. Alexander S. Karn |
