Rifle and Shotgun Merit Badge session on 3/11

Reminder, follow-up class and testing for Rifle and Shotgun badges Wednesday 3/11 at 6pm to no later than 9pm at the Adelphia Firehouse. I don't expect the testing to take that long. Mr Malm and I will have you grade each others worksheets then we will test you individually on the safety and shooting points listed below.

 

Please be sure to know the following as by heart:

Identify and demonstrate the three fundamental rules for safe gun handling. 
1st  Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. 
2nd – Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. 
3rd – Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use

Identify and explain each rule for safe shooting. 
1. Know your target and what is beyond 
2. Know how to safely use the gun 
3. Be sure the gun is safe to operate 
4. Use only the correct ammunition for your gun 
5. Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate 
6. Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting 
7. Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons

Identify and demonstrate the five fundamentals of shooting a rifle safely. 
1. Aiming/Sight Picture Control – trying to keep sights aligned to target 
2. Breath Control – stopping your breathing before the shot 
3. Hold Control – keeping sights aligned as close as possible to the target 
4. Trigger Control – pulling the trigger straight to the rear while maintaining good sight picture control (trying not to move the gun) 
5. Follow Through – maintaining breath control, sight picture control, trigger control immediately after the shot.
