Troop 150 Swim Test at the Freehold YMCA on 5/24/18

posted May 21, 2018, 7:55 PM by Alex Karn
This Thursday, Troop 150 will be conducting its annual swim test. Everyone will meet at the Freehold YMCA at 9 PM (there is no meeting at the Adelphia Firehouse). Please bring swim suits, towels, dry clothes to change into after the swim test, and five dollars to cover costs for using the facility.

A couple of notes:

For those who don’t know, the annual BSA swim test consists of several parts. Scouts must first jump into the deep end of the pool feet-first. Then, Scouts must successfully swim the length of a swimming pool four times. Three lengths are strokes of the Scout’s choosing, and the last length must be a backstroke. The conclusion of the swim test involves treading water for two minutes.

The swim test must be successfully completed for Scouts to participate in any water-related activity during weekend campouts and Ockanickon Summer Camp.

I realize that this is extremely late, especially for the younger Scouts. Unfortunately, this was the only available time for the Freehold YMCA. The younger Scouts will complete their testing first so that they can go home the earliest for school the next morning.

It is not the end of the world if Scouts can not attend this swim test. While it is highly recommended for the sake of efficiency, swim tests can also be completed at Ockanickon Summer Camp, but Scout registration time at summer camp will take longer due to the large lines at the swimming pool as a result.

If there are any questions, as always, feel free to call or text me at (732) 850-5816.
